Thesis Statement
Beginning in the 11th century, Christians in Jerusalem were increasingly persecuted by the city’s Islamic rulers, especially when control of the holy city passed from the relatively tolerant Egyptians to the Seljuk Turks in 1071. There was a significant wars between the Muslims and the Christians in Jerusalem, based on religion and the Holy land. The first crusade which was known as "The people's crusade" was led by Peter the Hermit. On other hand, Pope Urban II plea to go to war against Muslims forces in the Holy Land. Therefore, the goal of capturing Jerusalem from the Muslims was achieved. However, the Muslims in the region decided to go to war (jihad) to regain control over the region.
"From the safe distance of many centuries, it is easy enough to scowl in disgust at the crusades. Religion, after all, is nothing to fight wars over, but we should be mindful that our medieval ancestors would have been equally distgust by infinitely more destructive wars fought in the name of political ideologies. And yet both the medieval and the modern soldier fight ultimately for their own world and makes it up."
